Mechanical Contractors, Inc. (MCI) cannot thank you and your team enough for the great project Byrd Industrial Services did at the Wells Fargo Office Building in Raleigh, NC.

When MCI landed this opportunity with Spectrum Companies to replace two (2) Dual Cell 660-ton Evapco Cooling Towers, we knew it would not be without significant challenges.  These cooling towers are on the roof of a 30-story building in the heart of downtown.  Complicated is just the beginning when considering the logistics of operating within a congested urban area, and the time frame required to complete the project. There are no mobile cranes that can reach the roof of a 30-story office building, and we quickly found that obtaining approval from the city for a helicopter lift in downtown Raleigh was near impossible.

The solution?  Byrd Industrial Services.

I reached out to my cooling tower sales rep and he introduced me to Byrd Industrial Services. Marvin and his team came in and reviewed the project with MCI.  As a team, we came up with a game plan:

• Isolate one (1) of the four (4) cooling tower cells;

• Dissemble that cell piece by piece;

• Remove existing cell from the roof of the building;

• Build the new cell back piece by piece in its place.

This process was repeated four (4) times until we had two (2) new dual cell cooling towers built in place where there once were two (2) 26-year-old cooling towers. Marvin’s team did all of this rebuild work during normal business hours with no disruptions to the cooling system for the office building. I should also mention that we started this work in May and finished up in August. All this work was done during the peak-heat months in Raleigh NC; what were we thinking?!

By working as a “Team”, we created the solution to a complex problem that was truly one-of-a-kind.   By working outside of the norm for this type of mechanical project, we were able to satisfy our customer with an efficient and smooth process.  We really enjoyed working with Marvin & his team and look forward to our next business venture together.
